Many future faculty members gain their first university teaching experience as Graduate Teaching Assistants (GTA). However, many of these GTA programs provide limited support for instruction and ongoing professional development. This presentation provides an overview of a systematic program of GTA professional development that aims to initiate and support university GTA's as reflective practitioners who focus on high quality instruction. Ideas for GTA development and a systematic approach to working with GTAs will be shared.
