319 (NASPE Elementary PE Day) Literature Comes to Life: Exploring Movement Through Books and Stories

Thursday, March 15, 2012: 8:45 AM-10:00 AM
Convention Center: Ballroom A
NASPE/Preschool and Elementary PE
Speakers: Kathleen Wagner, Wichita Collegiate School, Wichita, KS; and Pamela Powers, 2004 NASPE Elementary Teacher of the Year, 2007 Golden Apple Teacher of the Year, Houston, TX
Author, Emilie Buchwald, said, “Children are made readers on the laps of their parents.” A child’s ability to retain what he has read can be enhanced when the reading is done in conjunction with physical activity. Participants will engage in activities used to teach physical skills while integrating early childhood classroom content areas like numbers, letters, colors, shapes, or sounds. Join us as we explore the love of reading with the joy of physical activity.
