NASPE/Public Policy
Speakers: Marybell Avery, Lincoln Public Schools, Lincoln, NE; Bob Rauner, Partnership for a Healthy Lincoln, Lincoln, NE; and Lana F. Peterson-Pressler, Rousseau Elementary, Lincoln, NE
This session will present the results of a three-year process to collect district wide student weight and fitness data in Lincoln, Nebraska, and how this data is being used to drive policy related to physical activity and physical education. Initially, data was collected to establish need for a successful PEP grant application in 2009. An unanticipated use of the data has been its effectiveness in helping to change local health policy.
