Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 requires equal opportunity in all educational programs. Due to the lack of interested or qualified females to coach the dramatically increased number of girls’ high school sport teams, more male coaches have been hired. While anecdotal evidence suggests that more males are coaching girls’ high school teams, there is no national data to support this premise. If true, what are the reasons why this has occurred?
