High school sports are often praised for contributing to the academic performance of athletes, although there is little empirical evidence to substantiate this claim. Data from a comparison between athletes and non-athletes in one state on absences, drop-out rates, graduation rates, ACT composite scores, self-reported grade point averages, leadership activities, and service activities will further justify that athletes outperform their non-athlete peers.
