Successful dance experiences for all children result when a teacher understands the student’s needs, plans for appropriate adaptations, and is flexible to change. Instructional strategies are presented for developing class routines, organizing equipment, creating spatial orientation plans, applying visual and other sensory stimuli, providing effective feedback, and using peer and paraeducator support. Strategies are illustrated through participating in social and creative dances appropriate for students with intellectual disabilities, autism, and attention deficit disorder.
