Julian W. Smith directed the Outdoor Education Project, an AAHPERD-initiated program to teach youth the skills, knowledge, and attitudes required for lifelong enjoyment of the outdoors. The award is presented by the Council for Adventure & Outdoor Education/Recreation and honors an AAHPERD member who has made significant achievements in the field over many years.
