This symposium presents five related studies. First, we present the development and validation of three scoring rubrics for assessing pre-service teachers’ game performance competency in soccer, basketball, and volleyball. Second, we describe the development and validation of Assessing Teaching Competency Rubrics for assessing four essential teaching dimensions. Third, we discuss how pre-service teachers’ game performance competency affected their teaching practices during a soccer lesson. Fourth, we analyze the impact of pre-service teachers’ game performance competency on their teaching in a basketball unit. Lastly, we will present how pre-service teachers’ game performance competency affects their teaching of a volleyball lesson.
