While scholarly activity is highly regarded within recreation, the field has yet to develop universally accepted guidelines to assist researchers in recognizing ethical versus unethical research action. We discuss the implications of recent research examining academicians' and journal editors' perceptions of ethical vs. unethical research action, particularly as it relates to subjective areas of action such as authorship, fragmentation, duplication, external sponsorship, collegiality, self-plagiarism, and the publication of student research.
