Advocacy for Equally Effective Adapted Sport & Extramural Programs
Several laws have been enacted to ensure inclusion for children with disabilities in school-based programs. Specially designed programs are appropriate if they allow students with disabilities to experience the same benefits as their able-bodied peers, and adapted physical educators have the responsibility to advocate for equally effective programs. This session will describe the Cherokee Ability Games, an inclusive program in Georgia that focuses on lifetime sports. Additionally, the presenters will outline their Special Olympics varsity letter program.
