Adolescents are the core consumers of energy drinks. Almost 33% report regular consumption to stay wired. Energy drinks are marketed using teens’ drive for rebellion/risk taking, while containing unregulated amounts of caffeine. This session will discuss the dangers of energy drinks, while focusing on advertising methods, brand confusion with alcoholic energy drinks, the dangerous symptoms and side effects of high caffeine doses with OTC and prescription drugs, safe beverage alternatives, and recommendations for school/athletic policies.
