Training Minority Lifeguards through PE in High Needs Schools |
This session explains how a university-school-CBO collaborative brought a renewed aquatics/life skills program to a high-needs high school. Focusing on the need to provide student success, relevant curriculum, and positive long-term relationships to improve physical education in under-served high schools (Ennis, 2006), university faculty negotiated with the American Red Cross and with the US Olympic Committee to provide funding and swim instruction into a physical education program. |
