AAHE/Conduct Evaluation/Research
Maternal and Child Health:Women’s Breastfeeding Knowledge, Beliefs and Behaviors.
One national goal (HP-2010) is to increase breastfeeding. The purpose of this research was to evaluate the gaps in breastfeeding behavior. Besides racial disparities in knowledge, breastfeeding opinions and perceptions were positive. However, respondents did not know about breast milk storage which is important to mothers working outside the home. This is relevant for formulating information at the point source. Health educators and WIC program planners will benefit from understanding this information gap.
