Adventure-Based Physical Education: Meeting Standards for Teacher Education
Through a required PETE course in Adventure Education, candidates experience the use of games, initiative problem solving activities, trust building activities, and challenge/peak experiences, along with basic backcountry living skills, leadership, decision-making, and judgment factors in outdoor settings. A dual outcome is that candidates learn to use inter- and intra-personal skills that allow them to work effectively in groups and assume leadership roles in educational settings and to teach these skills to their own students.
