School-Based Physical Activity Promotion for Youth: A Comprehensive Approach
Legislation, public health practitioners, and numerous governmental and non-governmental organizations are calling on schools to serve as leaders in promoting health-enhancing physical activity (PA) for youth. The purpose of this tutorial is to discuss four components of a Comprehensive School-Based PA Program. Specifically, the role of physical education, recess, classroom, and the after-school environments in promoting PA will be discussed. Presenters will provide a brief overview of the literature in each area and provide strategies for effectively utilizing each component to increase the PA levels of youth. Finally, time will be allocated for audience questions and comments on the topic.
