Using Haiku Poetry in Children's Creative Dance
This activity-based session is intended for dance educators, elementary physical education specialists and classroom teachers. It will provide participants with the opportunity to explore how Japanese Haiku poetry can serve as an exciting and stimulating foundation for developing creative dance sequences. The session will consist of examining various Haiku poems selected for suitability for elementary age children, using relationship elements to create and choreograph small group dances and incorporating short selections of classical music.
