Negative Images of African American Women in Sport
African American women have long struggled for recognition in the world of sport. Unfortunately, they have also received their fair share of negative publicity. One of the major issues has been the media's constant portrayal of African American women in either a non-feminine way or by their physicality. Comments using words such as "breed" and "nappy" to references made about body images that belong in "National Geographic" will be discussed.
