Media Coverage of Sports: A Cross-Cultural Analysis of Gender Bias |
This presentation discusses research on media coverage of male and female sports in Italy and the U.S. A total of 184 articles in Italian newspapers collected over two weeks were compared to 986 articles from the United States. Twenty-five percent of the Italian sports articles covered female athletes while only 14.39% of the U.S. articles did. The presentation is aimed at all those interested in promoting equity in sports. Those attending the presentation should expect to learn about the cross-cultural analysis of media coverage as well as how gender stereotypes are reinforced in society’s view of sport participation. |
