Beyond Dialogue: Addressing the –isms in Sport & Physical Activity
Although sport and physical activity allows for a great deal of diversity and difference as a social institution, it’s still fraught with prejudice and intolerance. If you are not convinced, then come to this session to dialogue about such comments made by Don Imus regarding the Rutger’s Women’s Basketball team or Tim Hardway’s response to John Amaechi “coming out” as gay in his 2007 book. Then we will go beyond simply dialoguing, and provide participants with useful tools and techniques that students, teachers, coaches and administrators can take and use regarding the –isms and homophobia in sport and physical activity.
