Providing Safe Field Trips and Student Travel Opportunities
Visiting places related to studies or that challenge students such as camping, hiking or paddling in semi-remote or wilderness areas offer learning experiences that are relevant, challenging, dynamic, and can not be experienced in the classroom or regular extracurricular activities. Unfortunately, some of these exciting trips have tragic endings or unpleasant outcomes. Aside from transportation concerns, leaders need to understand their responsibilities in providing safe travel opportunities for students on an extended field trip or multi-day competition event. This session will focus on basic risk management strategies for traveling with students.
