Teaching Children to Pace Themselves With and Without Technology
This study investigated the effect of a 10-minute steady state jog using various pulse-reading technology on mile-run results. Positive attitudes changes occurred toward the run and perceived exertion. The greatest impact was seen in children who typically completed the mile run alternating between a run and a walk. A repeated measures ANOVA on weekly heart rate when jogging indicated a significant change. This study suggests that this protocol may be an effective means of teaching children to pace themselves when running the mile, of improving their capability and comfort level when running the mile, and improving their scores.
