Women’s Experiences as Collegiate Coaches and Recommendations for Change
Acosta and Carpenter’s (2006) latest report suggests that only 42.4% of current women’s teams are coached by a female head coach compared to over 90% in 1972. Furthermore, less than 2% of all men’s teams have a female head coach. This session will discuss two recent research studies with female coaches. The first study investigated the experiences of women coaching men’s teams. The second study examined the experiences of former female collegiate coaches and their decision to leave the coaching profession. Full results of these studies as well as recommendations for change will be presented.
