Development of an Adapted Aquatics Program
Adapted aquatics have been in use for several decades as a rehabilitation tool and curriculum for students with disabilities. This session will present the efforts of developing a developmentally appropriate adapted aquatics program based on individual ability rather than age or grade level. The program was originally developed by a group of 8 adapted PE specialists whom, through their district, provided 12-weeks of adapted aquatics to all students qualified for adapted physical education services. Seven skill levels were developed with 8-12 performance criteria for each level.  Audience members will gain an understanding of the development process of this adapted aquatics program.
