Symposium: Psychological Rehabilitation for Athletes Recovering From Serious Injury
Physical injuries in sports often have a psychological effect on the athlete. Also, just because an athlete is physically ready to return from injury does not necessarily mean he or she is psychologically ready. This symposium’s purpose is twofold. First, it will present data that showcase the lack of preparation and minimal number of opportunities available to Certified Athletic Trainers (ATC) in the area of psychology. Second, it will present an original mnemonic device (i.e., SCRAPE) that will serve as a reminder for ATCs as to psychological approaches that they may use to facilitate both physical and psychological recovery from injury.
