Kick, Glide, Pole! Teaching Young Skiers to Diagonal Stride
Cross-country skiing is one of the best all-around, lifetime cardiovascular activities you can teach your students, but do you know how to progress your students from “walking on their skis” to really moving…kicking and gliding so they experience a cardio workout? In this session, the biomechanics of the diagonal stride technique will be covered and critical features of each phase discussed. A teaching progression that will help you get your elementary or middle school aged students kicking and gliding will be presented and developmental issues that affect performance discussed. Games and activities that encourage effective technique will be identified.
