Building Health Promotion Capacity through Education of Allied Health Practitioners
Expanding capacity in health promotion is a pressing need for many communities, particularly those in underserved areas. Our Department of Health Sciences has addressed this need by educating clinically oriented allied health practitioners in health promotion competencies through seven entirely online bachelor’s degree programs, designed especially for allied health practitioners. Students complete online coursework, as well as an internship where health promotion competencies are applied within their clinical settings. The result has been an amazing interdisciplinary approach to community health promotion. This presentation will review the development of these online programs and provide opportunities for discussion of processes and outcomes.
