Outcomes from a Two Year Walking School Bus Intervention
A Walking School Bus program was implemented in two public elementary schools in a mid-western community of 30,000 people. Adults escorted children to and from school each day for two years. The purpose of this symposium is to describe implementation and process evaluation, including parental satisfaction of the program, as well as the impact of the intervention on school-wide prevalence of active commuting. In addition, we evaluated the impact of walking to and from school on physical activity levels and changes in body composition over two years. Parents, teachers, and administrators interested in implementing a walk-to-school program should attend.
