O Be Careful Little Tongue: Effective Teacher/ Coach Feedback |
One instructional technique frequently used by physical education teachers and youth sport coaches is verbal feedback. Recently, a body of research from pedagogy, motor learning, and youth sports has provided insights into the types of verbal feedback most likely to help students learn motor skills, enhance students’ self-perceptions, and develop their prosocial behaviors. The principles for giving feedback that accomplishes goals in those three areas are often very different. The purpose of this presentation is to summarize that research and present guidelines for giving verbal feedback to enhance motor skill learning, self-perceptions, and prosocial behaviors. |
