Growing Healthy Lives: Healthcare Providers Impacting Childhood Overweight
Rates of childhood overweight continue to escalate across our nation, and may profoundly impact the prevalence of related chronic diseases among future generations. Healthcare providers are uniquely positioned to offer effective healthy lifestyles counseling to children and their families. However, multiple factors, including inadequate patient-provider time and lack of tangible resources, prohibit this interaction. In an effort to address this need, the Community Health Improvement (CHI) department of WellSpan Health developed the Growing Healthy Lives initiative, which empowers healthcare providers to begin a dialogue about the issue with their patients and families.
