Empowering Girls and Women through Sport and Physical Activity
There is no denying information in the biological, physiological, sociological and sociolgical sciences about the value and importance of sport for girls and women. Despite all the positive gains girls and women have made in sport, there are some aspects of sport participation that can be problematic. This session will help provide an overview of the myriad of ways in which sport can be healthy and destructive (Eitzen, 2006). It will also include an opportunity for participants to discuss strategies for creating sport environments that are physically and emotionally safe and empowering for girls and women.
