Assessment and Improvement of Academic Advisement
This presentation will present a rationale for the importance of good academic advisement and suggest strategies for assessing and improving advisement practices. The primary purpose of academic advising is to help students develop meaningful educational plans. Advisement must incorporate student learning and student development and must enhance overall educational experiences (National Academic Advisors Association, 2006). Good advisement is crucial to student satisfaction, student success, and the effective delivery of a program curriculum. Assuming that academic advisement is valued, the following will be addressed: components of effective academic advisement; potential sources of assessment; techniques for assessment; and suggested assessment models.
