Fueling for Performance: Understanding Athletes Nutrient Needs |
Athletes frequently obtain nutrition information from popular magazines, coaches or other athletes. Often the information they rely on is inaccurate and potentially detrimental. This presentation focuses on what athletes really need for peak performance and dispels common nutrition misconceptions in sports. It is designed to give physical education teachers, coaches and trainers an introduction to scientifically sound nutrition recommendations for athletes. Carbohydrate, protein, fat and fluid needs will be presented. How to meet these needs through appropriate food intake will be discussed. The use of meal replacement and sports supplements will be reviewed. Session sponsored by NSCA-Certification Commission. |
