Plyo Play: Progressive Plyometrics for School-Aged Youth
Despite out-dated concerns regarding the safety and effectiveness of youth resistance training, there has been a growing interest in fitness programs that enhance strength and power in children and adolescent. Plyometric training which involves the performance of dynamic movements has proven to be safe and effective for children and adolescents. In addition, a well-designed plyometric training program can reinforce key movement patterns and reduce the risk of sports-related injuries. In this lecture, scientific evidence supporting plyometric training for youth will be discussed and our progressive 'Plyo Play' program for sports and physical education will be described.
