Grading Students in Physical Education: Data Driven Decision Making |
Assignment of grades in physical education can be a source of confusion and controversy. Lacy & Hastad (2007) defined a grade as “a symbol to denote progress and serves as a permanent record of a student’s achievement” (p. 336). Breakdown of grades should be aligned with learning objectives and desired direction of physical education programs. Linking grading to the Achievement-Based Curriculum Model (Kelly & Melograno, 2004) will be emphasized and related to program evaluation. Additionally, the session will provide physical educators with tools on how to grade using Excel. A review of effective assessment strategies and examples will be provided. |
