AAPAR Adapted Aquatics Instructor Credentialing– Days 1-3
This 22-hour course (Sunday-Tuesday, 4/6-8, 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m.) is for currently certified Red Cross water safety and/or YMCA swimming instructors and/or professionals with a degree in physical education/adapted physical education, therapeutic recreation, physical therapy, etc. to conduct adapted aquatics programs for people with disabilities. Prerequisites include: (1)current Red Cross or swimming instructor certification (if applicable); and (2)current first aid and CPR (AED). Candidates must bring swimsuit, towel, Adapted Aquatics Programming textbook by Lepore, Gayle, and Stevens (1998, Human Kinetics) and completed study guide, plus a videotape/DVD of them teaching swimming skills to a small group of people with disabilities (2-5) in the aquatic setting.
