Policies related to school health provide a framework for establishing a healthy school environment. The School Health Profiles (Profiles 2006) was used to determine health-related policies and procedures in secondary schools (grades 6 - 12)in a large southern state. Profiles 2006 survey was mailed to 507 secondary principals, with a return percentage of 71%. Principals responded to school policy questions regarding required health and physical education courses, tobacco-use prevention, nutrition-related practices,violence prevention, health services, and infection policies. The results presented important and key elements the lead to important recommendations for enhancement of the school health program.
