CALL FOR PROPOSALS for Sessions, Symposia and Posters

DEADLINE: June 15, 2007

You are invited to submit a proposal for the American Association for Physical Activity and Recreation program at the 2008 American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (AAHPERD) National Convention and Exposition to be held in partnership with Southern District and Texas AHPERD in Fort Worth, Texas, April 8-12, 2008.

In order to be considered, all abstracts must be submitted via the online system by 11:59 p.m. (PT) on Friday, June 15, 2007. Due to the high volume of proposals submitted for review, abstracts submitted through electronic mail, U.S. mail or facsimile will not be considered. Requests for late submission will not be accepted. Incomplete submissions will not be reviewed.

LIMITS ON NUMBER OF SUBMISSIONS:

Individuals may be a presenter on no more than two (2) total sessions/abstracts across the AAHPERD convention program. Poster presentations and Symposiums are included in this requirement. However, there is no limit on the total number of authored/co-authored submissions.


AUDIOVISUAL EQUIPMENT FOR AAPAR SESSIONS:

Each lecture session will have an LCD projector available in the room. All presenters using the LCD will need to bring their own laptop already loaded with their PowerPoint presentations or make arrangements to share a laptop with other presenters in their session.

Lecture rooms will also include a head table, a podium, a podium microphone, a clip-on lavaliere microphone, and a projection screen. No wireless microphones or laser pointers will be provided. See the main submission page for additional information on audiovisuals.


CONVENTION PROCEEDINGS CD:

All accepted session planners will be asked to provide an electronic copy of all session collateral materials - handouts, Power Points, etc. - for use on the AAPAR convention proceedings CD. The CD will be sold online through AAHPERD registration and onsite at the AAHPERD bookstore. Deadline for materials: February 8, 2008.


GENERAL 2008 PROPOSAL INFORMATION:

Please refer to the main 2008 convention submission page for important information relevant to presenting, including limitations on number of presentations, dual submissions, program scheduling, expenses, summary of guidelines for submitting a proposal and notification of review decision. Note that for AAPAR, first authors of free communications or poster submissions and planners of symposia will be notified of the review disposition by September 30, 2007. Since notification will be handled via email to the first author of posters and session/symposium planners, if your email address changes between the date of your submission and September 30, 2007, please let AAPAR know by emailing aapar@aahperd.org. First authors and symposia planners are responsible for notifying co-authors of the disposition of the submission.


AAPAR POSTER PRESENTATION FORMAT:

Poster presentations should fit on a 4’x 8' poster board. Presenters of proposals accepted for a poster session will need to be present during the entire time while their poster is on display for discussion.

Abstracts should describe completed research, research concepts or programs in physical activity and/or recreation across the lifespan that have not been presented or published elsewhere prior to the Convention. Students are especially encouraged to participate and to formulate exciting new approaches to studies, research and application from any field of study. Projects may originate from any number of occupational fields or fields of study that apply concepts based on fitness, exercise physiology, wellness, rehabilitation, recreation, leisure and physical activities that contribute to the well being of individuals across the lifespan. For example, projects may be related to innovative services and programs, public policy, improvement/incorporation of community/environment, new instruments and accessories in the home and community.


AAPAR POSTER PRESENTATION SELECTION CRITERIA:

Abstracts can be up to 250 words and should contain the same information from your poster presentation, but in a condensed form. Poster sessions are reviewed and evaluated on the following criteria:

Selection Criteria (each criteria reviewed on a scale of 0-3)

  • Significance:   Appropriateness, significance and clarity of the statement of the problem or importance of the project to the field. 3 pts
  • Design:   Methods, techniques, procedures, and mode of analysis (as applicable). 3pts
  • Results:   Summary of findings (results, conclusions, and discussion) (as applicable) 3pts
  • Innovation/creativity of project design. 3 pts
  • Clarity: Proposal well organized and adequately detailed. 3 pts
  • Thoroughness: Thorough analysis of important aspects of the topic. 3 pts
  • Timeliness: Research is new or original. 3pts

Extended Description/Program Objectives
Insert the body of Abstract in this area. The abstract should be typed as one paragraph in length of 250 words or less. Please do not use hard returns within the paragraph. The abstract must include:

  • Significance:    Appropriateness, significance and clarity of the statement of the problem or outcome value, benefits and application of program.
  • Design:    Methods, techniques, procedures, and mode of analysis (if applicable).
  • Results:    Summary of findings - results, conclusion, and discussion (if applicable). Research must have been completed. It is not satisfactory to state only "The results will be discussed."
