IRT, 20 Years Later: Promises Made, Not Made and To Be Made |
Item Response Theory (IRT) is a modern measurement theory that is being widely used in today's educational measurement practice. Spray introduced IRT to the field of physical
education and exercise science in 1987. Since then, some efforts have been made to explore/apply this new theory to the measurement practice in the field. While some positive applications have been reported, IRT has basically been ignored by the field. Along with an historical review, the progress that has been made will be reviewed and successful examples will be illustrated. The lessons learned and future research direction will also be discussed. |
