Fostering Creativity within the Traditionally Structured Ballet Technique Class
Presented by the 2006 College/University Dance Educator of the Year, Elizabeth Gillaspy (Texas Christian University). "How does traditional ballet training impact the development of creative and risk-taking impulses in female ballet students?" One strategic answer is the inclusion of creative problem-solving opportunities within the traditional ballet technique class. This presentation is designed 1) to present participants with points of discussion and 2) to offer concrete strategies for developing opportunities to explore creativity in ballet class. The presenter has been involved in a research project designed to investigate why so few women ballet choreographers are represented in the professional ballet world.
