Adventure Education in the HPE Curriculum: Targeting the Global Issue of Obesity |
Adventure Education is becoming more popular as we realize HPE curriculum must change to meet the needs of our youth. Inactivity, obesity, and diabetes in youth are all on the rise. This session takes a positive youth development approach to adventure activity and health education. Furthermore, researchers propose an innovative HPE curriculum that uses adventure activities to teach energy intake (i.e., food) and its impact on energy expenditure (i.e., heart rate). In conclusion, we hope this session promotes innovative teaching to help youth consider “what” they eat and “how” it affects them. All this while having fun through adventure education! |
