Issues and Concerns: Health Lifestyles of Immigrants

DescriptionThis workshop targets individuals who work with or who have immigrants and refugees in their institutions or agencies. Part I addresses reasons why America experiences huge influxes of immigrants from all over the world, health related challenges and/or disparities that immigrants encounter in America, and gives tips on how to provide cross-culturally competent healthy lifestyle interventions. Part II discusses research findings aimed to identify health-seeking behaviors of Latinas, including difficulty in seeking and barriers to accessing health care services. Implications to health education programming and future research will also be addressed.
