A Descriptive Analysis of the Roles, Responsibilities, and Concerns of Adapted Physical Education Teachers in an Urban School District
StructureAdapted Physical Activity Council
DescriptionThe purpose was to determine and describe the job roles and responsibilities of APE teachers in itinerant service delivery and to determine whether or not they had job-related concerns. Participants were experienced APE teachers in an urban school district. The theoretical framework was concerns theory (Fuller, 1969). The method was qualitative cross-case studies (Stake, 1994). Interviews and observations were used to gather data and these data were analyzed comparatively. Findings revealed that teachers: (a) differ in how they describe their roles and responsibilities, (b) have variable collegial relationships that were contextually driven, and (c) concerns were mostly contextually situated.
