Irish Social Dance
Nancy Jo Kane, SUNY Rockland Community College, Ringwood, NJ

Irish competitive step dance has gained in popularity over the past decade with the success of Riverdance and similar shows. However, in addition to the solo step dance form, Irish dance has a rich tradition of ceili and set (square) dancing. Many of the patterns in the dances are similar to American square and contra dances. This session is an introduction to several social dances in the Irish traditional style.
