Join the NDA Board of Directors in honoring the 2006 Heritage honoree, Joan Woodbury of the Ririe-Woodbury Dance Company, for her outstanding international contributions to dance. As the first Fulbright Scholar in dance, Joan studied with Mary Wigman in Germany. She is now retired after 47 years as a professor of modern dance at the University of Utah. She has choreographed and taught master classes internationally. She has received many honors, including National Endowment for the Arts grants, the Utah Governor's Award, and her lifelong contributions are acknowledged in the Dictionnaire de la Danse. The mission of the Ririe-Woodbury Dance Company is to further "contemporary, multi-media dance by creating and performing original and innovative works of the highest quality modern dance while promoting the understanding of and appreciation for the art form of dance, in the belief that Dance is for Everybody!" This mission extends to quality outreach programs in schools and the community. Among the artists scheduled to present testimonials are Joan’s son Todd to play guitar and Bill Evans to dance in her honor. |
