Teaching Life Skills through Golf: Developmental Programs to Enhance Girls' Participation in Golf
Girls and women make-up approximately 25% of all participants who play golf (“The First Tee”, 2004). In 1997, the World Golf Foundation initiated a program to bring more young people (e.g., girls, women, minorities, and underserved youth) to the game of golf by building facilities to increase accessibility and teach life skills through golf. This presentation will discuss the life skills curriculum developed by “The First Tee” that creates a safe environment for girls to learn golf. In addition, an overview of the LPGA/USGA Girls’ Golf program will be provided which has increased the number of girls in programs.
