Using Technology and Engineering to Facilitate Inclusion of Individuals with Disabilities
Technology and engineering can be utilized in physical activity and recreation environments to promote inclusion of persons with disabilities. This session will present an introduction to the use of technologies in physical activity and leisure settings. Part one will focus on simple technologies such as switches, low-tech communication devices, and environmental controls and ideas on how to utilize these devices in program planning. Part two will showcase the results of a collaboration between kinesiology professionals and mechanical engineers that has produced play equipment for people with quadriplegia.
