Sociocultural Symposium: Theory/Praxis Models – Interdisciplinarity and Sociocultural Difference in Sport Psychology and Physical Education |
This panel addresses the dual problematic of how to articulate interdisciplinary approaches as well as address issues of sociocultural difference in theory, practice, and pedagogy in the fields of sport studies and physical education. First, a specific model of cultural studies as praxis is introduced (Wright, 2002) and its implications for the future of sport psychology research, theorizing and practice are explored (Ryba & Wright, 2005). Second, an interdisciplinary model of pedagogical praxis in physical education is introduced that provides an alternative perspective for physical activity scholars that teach courses within the humanities and the behavioral and social sciences. |
