Wilderness Medicine: Rendering Care for the Outdoor Enthusiast |
Wilderness Medicine is a relatively new field, and to many, might be restricted to those rare physicians on expeditions to Mount Everest. However, broadly, Wilderness Medicine encompasses any practice of emergency medicine in remote areas, where traditional medical equipment and treatments are unavailable. This may include rendering care during a well equipped expedition or on a mountain biking trip. Come discuss common injuries that occur in various outdoor activities, and learn some prevention and injury management techniques. Lonnie Smith is a Certified Athletic Trainer, and Certified Instructor by the American Canoe Association in Swiftwater Rescue and Whitewater Kayaking. |
