This panel will examine: (1) the process of 10 year revision of the National Health Education Standards, (2) the outcomes of the revision, and (3) implications for curriculum and instruction paradigm shifts resulting from the revised standards, and strategies for professional development of teachers to enhance the implementation of the standards. Three individuals who participated with the NHES Revision Panel will serve as speakers. The revision of the standards focused on expansion of the following areas, which will all be addressed in the presentation: Pre-kindergarten (was not included in the original standards), assessment methodology for student outcome evaluation, and expanded strategies for the successful implementation of the standards (Previously called "Opportunity to Learn Standards"). |
