Measurement Symposium: Objective Measurement of Physical Activity in Physical Education
Physical Education (PE) has the potential to provide youth with a significant amount of health enhancing moderate (MPA) and vigorous physical activity (VPA). Researchers have used a variety of objective measures to quantify the amount of MPA and VPA that youth accumulate in PE. These include direct observation systems, accelerometers, and pedometers. In this symposium, physical activity measurement experts will identify and discuss the methods, issues, and challenges of using objective measures to quantify physical activity in PE. Findings and recommendations from existing studies using direct observation, accelerometers, and pedometers will also be presented.
